The Chinese identified a life force or, vital energy thousands of years ago. They call this energy Qi.
Though "energy" is a convenient label to use, scientists have yet to
identify the "waves" that make up Qi. Yet the existence of Qi is well
ratified by its practical application in Chinese medicine, Qigong, and
other related practices.
Qi is omnipresent. It also can be manipulated. Qi can possess
different qualities - bad, good, Yang, Yin etc.
The condition of a persons Qi, is the most critical determinant
of his/her health status. It can be strengthened through various
systems of exercises such as Qigong, Taijiquan and other martial
arts. This life force can be transferred and absorbed, thus allowing
the possibility of beneficial intervention by a Qigong healer.
Qigong is literally the act of "working" (gong) on
ones Qi. A Qigong master, or, "Sifu", is someone who
has achieved the ability to sense and cultivate this energy to a high
degree. Such a master can guide students to get in touch with this
energy, or assist with the healing process.
